Reasonable Accommodations
For job applicants, a reasonable accommodation is any change or adjustment that is made to the Hiring & Selection process so an individual with a disability can apply for, and be considered for a job. Reasonable accommodation can take many forms.
Below are a sample list of accommodations that may be needed during the hiring process. They include (but are not limited to):
• Providing written materials in accessible formats, such as large print, braille, or audio files.
• Providing readers or sign language interpreters.
• Ensuring that recruitment, interviews, tests, and other components of the application process are held in accessible locations.
• Providing or modifying equipment or devices.
• Adjusting or modifying application policies and procedures.
As an example, an applicant that is deaf may ask for a sign language interpreter during an interview so they can communicate with the hiring manager with ease. In another situation, a job applicant that uses a service animal may request an interview location that has access to space were the animal can relieve itself when needed.
If you need an accommodation, you are encouraged to reach out as soon as possible in the hiring process. Any information you share is considered confidential and will only be used to assist in determining what options are available to meet your accommodation needs.
